WHY WE STARTED OUR PODCAST - AVESTE ORIGINS

By Jake Dormer, Oct. 26, 2022

Starting a podcast was quite a daunting thing, putting ourselves out there and bringing our faces to the brand.

Podcast studio

Why?

A clothes brand starting a podcast!? Another day, another podcast I hear you all say. "We're gonna bring something new to the podcast scene". I'm sure you've all heard that one before as you quickly descend into a self help podcast that teaches you to try harder and have better time management. However, we're hear to share our story and the stories of the amazing brands we work with.

What?

We're unequivocally not ashamed of giving it a go. So why is it called "Origins"? Well, we've met some fantastic entrepreneurs over the last year and wanted to use the podcast to showcase their stories. AVESTE origins will be a podcast that is not there to speak to CEO's and millionaires that have already made it, but to speak to people that are in the trenches right now, busting their asses, working out of their mum and dad's houses and using every waking minute after their full time job (which pays their bills), to work on their side hustle. Hearing about how normal functioning people manage the stress of juggling 2 jobs whilst running a clothing business out of their own home we think will be inspirational to people in a different way.

We'll be talking to other kinds of guests outside of business and fashion also, so watch this space.

We're happy to discuss anything from online marketing, influencers, fashion trends and the state of education in the 21st century. Some podcasts will also just feature Josh and I rambling about whatever topic we want to.

How?

Well, neither of us 1) Had any experience doing podcasts and 2) Owned any equipment that would be suitable. We got hit by a timely ad on Facebook showing that Pirate Studios now have podcast studios! I've always loved Pirate as I often hire their DJ rooms for mixing, so this was a pleasant surprise. The room comes armed with 4 mics, headphones and a Rodemaster Pro mixing desk. After some fumbling around in Ableton, adjusting mic settings to eliminate background noise etc. we managed to get it all to work. You can even dial people in from zoom calls which is pretty cool! We tripod-ed up a couple of phones in order to record seprate videos of Josh and I and bam, you've got yourself a podcast.

In more recent times we've been trying a new piece of software called Riverside, which enables you to record podcasts from anywhere and with anyone simply in your browser. This is super helpful for when people can't make the journey to the studio when living in different parts of the country. The software even syncs in multiple phones enabling you to have secondary cameras which is very helpful and slick.

Editing?

Josh has been doing a wonderful job in Filmora cobbling together all the footage. Pulling together a number of audio tracks, video and chopping it all up is no easy task. We'll be looking to make this process more efficient in the future so please do reach out if you have any tips. The beauty of podcasts too is that they can be chopped up into reels and the content re-used multiple times across social media platforms. This blog post is one such example of that haha.

What do we think?

The podcast environment is more intense than it looks. You really do come out at the end of the day pretty knackered. There's something about being rigged up in a pressurised environment where you know you're being recorded that is really strenuous but at the same time very rewarding. Having a meaningful conversation and being forced to dig to the depths of your knowledge whilst at the same time maintaining the coherence of the show really takes some skill, something we'll be looking to improve on in the coming months.

The Future?

Overall verdict, we've really enjoyed doing them so far. We can't wait to get some of the founders of the brands on and let them tell their story to you. Watch this space.
